    New: June, 2014

    ANNOUNCEMENT:

Beginning in June, 2014, I will be testing new formats. When I launched our site for Christian Social Witness, I had hoped for input of many COMMENTS from our readers. At that time I devoted full time to this site and my upcoming book.  I envisioned a platform for Christian authors and readers of scripture and Christian book to choose http://talkofJesus.com as a place where we could interact in a witness of social networking between brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus.

I have continued to post scriptural exposition six days per week while working full-time at another ‘temporary job’ for the past several months. I make NO income from this site. To date, I make no income from any other writing, either.

[Anyone looking to hire a Christian writer who loves to write for the Lord?]

I must take more time to finish and edit the current draft of my book, a project from the Lord.  Therefore, I will post only as the Lord directs, with less scriptural posts. Your posts on scripture are still encouraged. (Even just a comment.)

    Beginning in June, 2014:

Scriptural posts will continue on Saturdays only

An original serial fiction story, The Throne of Heaven, will appear on weekdays.

Additional scriptural posts and writings of other authors and bloggers may also appear during the week as the Lord makes any available.

I pray that the Lord will continue to use any of the 300+ posts in your life and that you will comment on any writing from any scriptures expounded over the past ten months.

Your brother in Christ Jesus, site administrator and author,

    Roger Harned

    Don’t Waste Your Cancer

Do you know someone with cancer?

    (most of us do.)

If you don’t think that you do, but you know me; you know someone with cancer.

A few years ago I had the pleasure to meet John Piper at the Basics Conference. His preaching was outstanding, but John’s spirit glowed with a love for his fellow man like few others I know.

John had cancer and kept working and witnessing. He wrote a booklet about it, which I picked up and keep handy (usually on my dresser) for encouragement. You may also know that my wife Becky died of cancer fifteen years ago and my wife Lissette has survived cancer. Please pray for us.

Today, I am scheduled for surgery. I do not know if they will find another mass this time or not.

I want to share John’s pamphlet from his excellent website: Desiring God. (You may want to check out a sermon, too.)

  • Radical Reconstruction

    Radical Reconstruction

Matthew 5:12a ESV Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.

NOTE: The following devotional is transcribed from THE APPLAUSE OF HEAVEN, Sept. 26, Morning, by Max Lucado (a favorite, encouraging Christian author).

In the sermon on the mount, … what Jesus promises is not a gimmick to give you goose bumps nor a mental attitude that has to be pumped up at pep rallies. No, Matthew 5 describes God’s radical reconstruction of the heart.

    Observe the sequence.

    1. First, we recognize we are in need (we’re poor in spirit).
    2. Next, we repent of our self-sufficiency (we mourn).
    3. We quit calling the shots and surrender control to God (we’re meek).
    4. So grateful are we for his presence that we yearn for more of him (we hunger & thirst).
    5. As we grow closer to him, we become more like him. We forgive others. (we’re merciful).
    6. We change our outlook (we’re pure in heart).
    7. We love others (we’re peacemakers).
    8. We endure injustice (we’re persecuted).

It’s no casual shift of attitude. It is a demolition of the old structure and a creation of the new. The more radical the change, the greater the joy. And it’s worth every effort, for this is the joy of God.

[As I stated, this timely devotional was written by Max Ludaco.]

Do not be discouraged, beloved believer, if you have just come to Christ or have reached only an early step in your growth in the Lord. We are a “CHRISTIAN UNDER RE-CONSTRUCTION.”

    Rejoice, and be glad.
