  • You Scoffers Who Rule Jerusalem – a Bed too Short

    You Scoffers Who Rule Jerusalem – a Bed too Short

    Perhaps by now you know from introduction in my previous post that the complainant in this case is the LORD. His indictment of leaders is not my complaint for today, but that of the prophet of Judah in the eighth century BC. Therefore Isaiah approaches these leaders, scoffers who rule Jerusalem with warnings from the LORD.

    Scoffers who rule …

    Our application, of course, may call the question to our own nations:

    Are our leaders also scoffers who rule with a bed too short?

    Let’s return to excerpts from the LORD’s rebuke from where we began previously. (You may follow various translations, including Hebrew, on the link below.)

    Scoffers who rule Israel

    Isaiah 28:

    14 Therefore hear the word of the Lord, you scoffers
    who rule this people in Jerusalem.
    15 For you said, “We have made a covenant with Death,
    and we have an agreement with Sheol;
    when the overwhelming catastrophe passes through,
    it will not touch us,
    because we have made falsehood our refuge
    and have hidden behind treachery.”

    Did the catastrophe pass over the Jewish leaders of Isaiah’s day?

    Again, as I pointed previously in our chronology of Israel, it did not. The Jews were overrun by Assyria in that day, as Empires rise and fall even unto this day. So what does the Lord promise through Isaiah to a people about to be taken from their homes to a foreign land?

    A Cornerstone in Zion

    If you do not already know it, you will find it helpful here to understand some significance of Zion to Hebrew history.

    צִיּוֹן

    Zion (153x), Sion (1x). Zion = “parched place,” a “sunny mountain,” a fortress, the southern and higher hill (of the LORD) upon which Jerusalem is built. On it set Mount Moriah, where the Temple was built and the LORD worshiped. It is used for the holy “city of David” specifically and for all of Jerusalem in general, especially by the prophets: Isaiah 47x, Jeremiah 32x and six other prophets 30x.

    16a [NASB] Therefore thus says the Lord God,

    “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone,
    A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed.

    This from the LORD, of course, is prophecy. The question we must understand is not only when, but the identity of this symbolic cornerstone of the Temple.

    Who IS this costly cornerstone of Israel’s future? And what makes this Savior of Israel so costly to the LORD?

    The one who believes will remain anchored to the Cornerstone of the heavenly Temple, established with justice as it’s measuring line and righteousness as its level.

    Yet if you do not hold to this cornerstone, a stumbling block to scoffers who rule without guidance from God — if you support godless scoffers who rule — then you will stumble as well on the cornerstone of righteousness. For like those you manipulate, you cannot hide on the day of your accounting before the LORD.

    What does Isaiah predict?

    Isn’t this the same prophet we hear quoted every year in this season leading up to remembering a birth of righteousness, the Cornerstone in Zion that rebuilds the Temple of the LORD for all time?

    Yes, Isaiah prophesies not only the fall of Jerusalem in their near future, but the coming of the Messiah of Israel born some seven centuries later.

    Consequence for Scoffers Who Rule

    Have you leaders been hiding behind lies of convenience?

    “Then hail will sweep away the refuge of lies…

    Can you really hide the truth of your sins forever?

    “And the waters will overflow the secret place.

    The LORD and others, even your enemies, will find you out.

    “and your agreement with Sheol will not stand;
    when the overwhelming scourge passes through
    you will be beaten down by it.

    19 [CSB] Every time it passes through,
    it will carry you away;
    it will pass through every morning—
    every day and every night.
    Only terror will cause you
    to understand the message.

    NO PLACE TO HIDE FROM THE LORD GOD!

    Hear the word of the LORD, you scoffers who rule any of God’s people anywhere.

    Isaiah’s imagery shows the futility of trying to keep your sin from God, for it will be shown to others.

    Perhaps you will take this warning as your one and only opportunity to repent of your sin. Maybe just one of our scoffers who rule will humbly return to fear of the Lord, our heavenly Father.

    The Bed too short

    Do you recall when you were a child how you thought that you could hide from your father under the bed or from fearful noises under the covers.

    Indeed, the bed is too short to stretch out on,
    and its cover too small to wrap up in.

    Isaiah 28:20 CSB

    Isaiah illustrates that leaders seeking rest from any but God as laughable at best, but futile in any instance. Judah was burdened with threats from and alliances with other leaders. They sought rest from war and peace with the world flowing through their porous defences.

    Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

    Matthew 11:28 NLT

    Once Isaiah mentions their frustration of trying to sleep on a bed too short (their alliances with other evil leaders) and of remaining of cover of their trust in others, he again proceeds to prophesy what must happen.

    Parazim & Gibeon

    21 [NASB] For the LORD will rise up as at Mount Perazim,
    He will be stirred up as in the valley of Gibeon,
    To do His task, His unusual task,
    And to work His work, His extraordinary work.

    You scoffers who rule in other places must understand the significance of these places to which Isaiah refers.

    So David came to Baal-perazim and defeated them there;
    and he said,
    “The LORD has broken through my enemies before me
    like the breakthrough of waters.”
    Therefore he named that place Baal-perazim.
    They abandoned their idols there,
    so David and his men carried them away.
    - 2 Samuel 5:20-21

    David, King of a once-united Israel, did not win the land and the people without the help of the LORD!

    And there in his victory, David gave thanks to the Lord before the people of the land. Yet before David and following leadership of another revered man of God and giver of the Law [Torah], Joshua also credits the LORD who has taken this land from their enemies.

    Joshua 10:10 And the LORD confounded them before Israel, and He slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and pursued them by the way of the ascent of Beth-horon, and struck them as far as Azekah and Makkedah.

    Warning & Advice to Scoffers Who Rule

    Isaiah speaks to scoffers of God. Yet are your ears this day so filled with twisted speech that you do not even understand the significance of his warning?

    לוּץ

    Scoffers translated from Hebrew luwts holds a pointed meaning. From Strong’s Concordance:

    לוּץ lûwts, loots; a primitive root; properly, to make mouths at, i.e. to scoff; hence (from the effort to pronounce a foreign language) to interpret, or (generally) intercede:—ambassador, have in derision, interpreter, make a mock, mocker, scorn(-er, -ful), teacher.

    “(from the effort to pronounce a foreign language) to interpret..” Sounds like #media, doesn’t it?

    Do you think even in seven-hundred some years before Christ scoffers who rule were any different than those who rule this day in the year of our Lord 2019?

    Of course not! These men and women of power: scorn, make mouths at, talk arrogantly; They boast, mock and deride.

    Isaiah warns:

    22 Now therefore, do not be mockers,
    Lest your bonds be made strong…

    Shall I mock Isaiah, scripture and the word of the Lord?

    (What do you think? Do you, your leaders or even opponents fear your shackles of slavery to lies tightening?)

    For I have heard from the Lord God of hosts
    Of decisive destruction on all the earth.

    Isaiah 28:22b NASB

    Decisive destruction on all the earth. It is not the causes for which these ambassadors of hypocrisy which will destroy the earth, the Lord God at a time and place of His Own choosing.

    Where’s a leader to hide?

    Again, Isaiah’ illustration of the futility of it all.

    • 24 Does the farmer plow continually to plant seed?
    • Or does he continuously break up and cultivate the soil?

    There’s a process here, a plan of the Lord; and you will be a part of it.

    • 25 Does he not level its surface
    • And sow dill
    • scatter cummin
    • And plant wheat in rows,
    • Barley in its place
    • and rye within its area?

    God’s ordered ways

    26 [CSB] His God teaches him order;
    he instructs him.

    27 Certainly black cumin is not threshed
    with a threshing board,
    and a cart wheel is not rolled over the cumin.
    But black cumin is beaten out with a stick,
    and cumin with a rod.
    28 Bread grain is crushed,
    but is not threshed endlessly.
    Though the wheel of the farmer’s cart rumbles,
    his horses do not crush it.

    Even a king, prime minister or president in a palace will see the ridicule of the farmer using the wrong tool to accomplish his purpose. Perhaps even a scoffer in Congress, Parliament or leadership claiming the rule of Law will see their own error and return to the Lord.

    Woe to the scoffers who rule the worldly cities.

    We cannot nearly complete the prophesies of Isaiah today. For if I continue, like Isaiah’s critics you would surely complain:

    “Law after law, law after law,
    line after line, line after line,
    a little here, a little there.”

    Therefore in closing I’ll caution US.

    Hear the Lord your God, for woe is akin to death. Isaiah uses it more than any other Prophet of the Lord.

    Woe to the wicked! It will go badly with him,
    For what he deserves will be done to him. – Isaiah 3:11 NASB

    Woe to those who enact evil statutes
    And to those who constantly record unjust decisions,

    So as to deprive the needy of justice
    And rob the poor of My people of their rights…

    Now what will you do in the day of punishment,
    And in the devastation which will come from afar?
    To whom will you flee for help?
    And where will you leave your wealth?

    excerpt: Isaiah 10:1-3 NASB

    After these warnings to leaders of the nations and specifically Judah, Isaiah warns:

    “Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker—
    An earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth!
    Will the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you doing?’
    Or the thing you are making say, ‘He has no hands’?

    Isaiah 45:9 NASB

    In a time yet to come — neither next Wednesday nor next year — Isaiah shows hope in a day to come and judgment against those who refuse the Way of the Lord, even those who yet deny the Truth Who IS and will judge from the Throne of Heaven, even those scoffers who rule in this life lacking regard for the Life that is to come — the life or the punishment after death.

    The LORD Rises Up

    Isaiah 33:

    Woe, you destroyer never destroyed,
    you traitor never betrayed!
    When you have finished destroying,
    you will be destroyed.
    When you have finished betraying,
    they will betray you.

    2 O Lord, be gracious to us; we have waited for You.

    Blessing or Woe?

    Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. – Matthew 5:5

    Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. – Matthew 5:7

    Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. – Matthew 5:10

    But woe to you, blind guides… scoffers who rule…

    “Woe to you also, lawyers! For you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers. –Luke 11:46

    Woe to the city of blood, totally deceitful, full of plunder, never without prey. – Nahum 3:1

    Your eyes will see the King in His beauty;

    They will see the land that is very far off.

    Isaiah 33:17 NKJV

    The Scroll of Isaiah

    Luke 4:

    17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him, and unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written:

    The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
    because he has anointed me
    to preach good news to the poor.
    He has sent me
    to proclaim release to the captives
    and recovery of sight to the blind,
    to set free the oppressed,
    19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

    He began by saying to them, “Today as you listen, this Scripture has been fulfilled.”

    The words of the Messiah Jesus from the Gospel of Luke 4:21

    And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:

    KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

    The Revelation of Jesus Christ to John 19:16 NKJV

  • You Scoffers Who Rule – a Bed too Short

    You Scoffers Who Rule – a Bed too Short

    Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scoffers who rule this people…

    Have you ever wanted to say that to those who claim to represent you in this government of the people?

    I have and suspect that most do as we helplessly watch the unraveling of rule which makes much sense or holds hope for our future.

    As lessons of history repeatedly remind us, the rise and fall of nations comes and goes with providential frequency throughout centuries of man’s devouring from the tree of knowledge.

    We’ll look further into the author of this indictment from the LORD and the people who he warns shortly, but first the gist of our controversy.

    I overheard your conversation

    “We have made a covenant with death

    “with Sheol we have made a pact.

    “The overwhelming punishment of the nation cannot touch US.

    “We have made untruth our refuge.

    “Carefully hidden are our deceitful frauds which we have ourselves concealed.

    Familiar, but not contemporary

    Who has heard such lies and uncovered truths carefully concealed?

    For these are proclaimed against the leaders by a man close to the Source of all truth.

    We know him only from ancient writings, but the evil he exposes cannot be hidden even in this day hundreds of years later.

    He is the Lord’s Prophet Isaiah.

    You may find it helpful to contemporize application of Isaiah’s warnings to leading characters of our own contemporary theatre of the absurd. For as then, even now we ought to see the futility of hiding our sin on a bed too short, under covers too small to wrap up in.

    Isaiah

    The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

    Isaiah 1:1 NKJV

    So who is this guy accusing many leaders of his day?

    The authors of the Baker Bible Commentary offer a few quick facts about Isaiah which may help.

    • Isaiah meahs: “Yahweh is salvation”
    • He is married and has two sons;
      • Shear-Jashub means: “a remnant will return”
      • Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz means: “quickly to the plunder, swift to the spoil”
      • (We cannot hear take time to dig into how many times the LORD gives names for the children of faithful servants, but later John and Jesus are among these.)
    • The Prophet is respected by Ahaz and Hezekiah shows that he easily moves into and out of the palace and has access to the king. (Perhaps he holds an appointed position serving the leaders of Judah.)
    • Isaiah ministers from 742-700 BC.

    Israel, Rome & other passing Empires

    For those of you not up on chronologies of history this is not, of course, warnings to the US, a young Empire founded in AD 1776 and coming to age in the 20th century as a nation fully escaping devastation.

    Nor is it about a predecessor power which once claimed, “Rule, Britannia! rule the waves” in AD 1740 as they progressed since AD 1066.

    Who is sovereign over these nations today?

    Some purveyors of power idolize Rome, a Roman republic which overthrew a kingdom in 509 BC, only to be taken by force in 27 BC.

    We both know and some leaders admire the Caesars of this era, overlooking their inevitable ends, as well as tyranny over their own people. Rome as an empire divided in AD 180, which marked the descent “from a kingdom of gold to one of rust and iron”

    Rome’s division into east and west impacted the early church, but Isaiah speaks of Israel’s division into north and south – a once United Kingdom of Israel under David which has not returned yet to this day.

    Israel then to Israel now

    I don’t want to make too much of parallels between the time of the prophecies of Isaiah and instability in contemporary world empires.

    Note however, these comparisons of time between the woes of Israel and her neighboring nations and more current woes of world politics (and religion or lack thereof, to some extent).

    • 931 BC – United Kingdom of Israel divided after Solomon’s death
      • AD 1585 – English colonize Roanoke in the new world to the west
    • 722 BC – Israel destroyed by Assyria (from the east) [ ~200 years later]
      • AD 1783 – English colonies granted independence after the American Revolution succeeds [~200 years after Roanoke]
    • 701 BC – Assyria attacks Judah [just 21 years after destruction of Samaria, capital of Israel.]
      • AD 1929 FDR elected Governor of New York, then as America’s only 4-term President, 1933- April, 1945 [~21 yrs]
      • United States emerges as the dominant world power
      • In 1947, the United Nations (UN) adopted a Partition Plan for Palestine recommending the creation of independent Arab and Jewish states and an internationalized Jerusalem.[source]

    Returning to the Jerusalem of Isaiah

    Truly the scene is not Jerusalem; nor Judah then and later a Judea, Samaria and Galilee of Jesus. Israel is not the land defeated or Jacob from their seed.

    The scene Isaiah, son of Amoz, son of Abraham presents emanates from the Throne of the Lord God.

    Here we find an indictment which the Prophet Isaiah must read before leaders of the lands. He begins:

    Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth!
    For the LORD has spoken:

    Isaiah 1:2a NKJV

    Isaiah 1:

    1:2 ἄκουε οὐρανέ καὶ ἐνωτίζου γῆ ὅτι κύριος ἐλάλησεν υἱοὺς ἐγέννησα καὶ ὕψωσα αὐτοὶ δέ με ἠθέτησαν

    LXX Septuagint

    You will not likely hear this read today or indeed at any time in a temple or synagogue of jewish cultural worship. Yet it is “the word of the LORD!”

    יְהֹוָה

    I have nourished and brought up children,
    And they have rebelled against Me;

    Isa 1:3 The ox knows its owner
    And the donkey its master’s crib;
    But Israel does not know,
    My people do not consider.”

    Isa 1:4 Alas, sinful nation,
    A people laden with iniquity,
    A brood of evildoers,
    Children who are corrupters!
    They have forsaken the LORD,
    They have provoked to anger
    The Holy One of Israel,
    They have turned away backward.

    The LORD has much more to say to these rulers. Read it for yourself.

    We hear all-too-frequent accusation and condemnation of opposing leaders of men and women. Yet you will not hear these harsh words of the LORD in the halls of your nation, temples of worship or message in the palm of your hand.

    Isaiah rebukes them:

    9 Unless the Lord of hosts
    Had left to us a very small remnant,
    We would have become like Sodom,
    We would have been made like Gomorrah.

    10 Hear the word of the Lord,
    You rulers of Sodom;
    Give ear to the law of our God,
    You people of Gomorrah:

    Do you hear the Lord your God?

    1:20 וְאִם־תְּמָאֲנוּ וּמְרִיתֶם חֶרֶב תְּאֻכְּלוּ כִּי פִּי יְהוָה דִּבֵּֽר׃ ס

    But if you refuse and rebel,
    You shall be devoured by the sword”;
    For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

    Isaiah 1:20 Masoretic Text; NKJV

    And while we consider our more contemporary dilemmas of the nations, let us consider the word of the LORD, through His Prophet Isaiah.

    Do the leaders of the nations listen to the Lord God?

    Why, they don’t even listen to their own advisors, let alone a godly advisor like Isaiah.

    Isa 2:2 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days
    That the mountain of the Lord’s house
    Shall be established on the top of the mountains,
    And shall be exalted above the hills;
    And all nations shall flow to it.

    For the day will come unexpectedly, even as a contemporary remnant found temporary solace in this from a “United Nations.”

    3 Many people shall come and say,
    “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
    To the house of the God of Jacob;
    He will teach us His ways,
    And we shall walk in His paths.”

    Yet do those who stop up their ears against the word of the Lord and dim their eyes to scripture spoken through the Prophets even realize the long-standing prediction of Isaiah?

    For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
    And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
    4 He shall judge between the nations,
    And rebuke many people;
    They shall beat their swords into plowshares,
    And their spears into pruning hooks;

    Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
    Neither shall they learn war anymore.

    Isaiah 2:3b-4 NKJV

    “There is no peace,” says the LORD, “for the wicked.”

    Isaiah 48:22 NKJV
    To be continued...

  • Because the days are evil – Prepared for Judgment

    Because the days are evil – Prepared for Judgment

    Stand in silence in the presence of the Sovereign LORD,
    for the awesome day of the LORD’s judgment is near.
    The LORD has prepared his people for a great slaughter
    and has chosen their executioners.

    Zephaniah 1:7 NLT

    Not so Prepared

    Where is my hope now? What will happen to the one who has not anticipated the inevitable and prepared for the day of judgment?

    We claimed the Lord; then life proceeded with so many unexpected turns in our narrow path of faith. I was prepared for life, yet never expected death.

    “I will sweep away everything
    from the face of the earth,” says the LORD.

    “I will sweep away people and animals alike.
    I will sweep away the birds of the sky and the fish in the sea.
    I will reduce the wicked to heaps of rubble,
    and I will wipe humanity from the face of the earth,” says the LORD.

    Zephaniah 1:3 NLT

    “I will consume man and beast… And the stumbling blocks along with the wicked… says the LORD.” Why did I not believe the word of the Lord? Were my eyes blinded to the scripture before us?

    הַרְנִ֤ינוּ גֹויִם֙ עַמֹּ֔ו כִּ֥י דַם־עֲבָדָ֖יו יִקֹּ֑ום וְנָקָם֙ יָשִׁ֣יב לְצָרָ֔יו וְכִפֶּ֥ר אַדְמָתֹ֖ו עַמֹּֽו׃ פ

    “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people;
    For He will avenge the blood of His servants,
    And render vengeance to His adversaries;
    He will provide atonement for His land and His people.”

    Deuteronomy 32:43 WLC;NKJV

    Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.

    Romans 12:19, quoting Deuteronomy 32:25

    But we knew this.

    Why then were we not prepared?

    Zephaniah

    12 At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps
    and punish those who are complacent,
    who are like wine left on its dregs,
    who think, ‘The Lord will do nothing,
    either good or bad.’

    Of course, the Lord executed judgment against Judah. For his chosen ones, a nation set aside as holy before the gentiles, fell back into their sin of idolatry – the worship of gods who are not the LORD!

    14 The great day of the Lord is near—
    near and coming quickly.
    The cry on the day of the Lord is bitter;
    the Mighty Warrior shouts his battle cry.
    15 That day will be a day of wrath—
    a day of distress and anguish,
    a day of trouble and ruin,
    a day of darkness and gloom,
    a day of clouds and blackness—
    16 a day of trumpet and battle cry
    against the fortified cities
    and against the corner towers.

    17 “I will bring such distress on all people
    that they will grope about like those who are blind,
    because they have sinned against the Lord.
    Their blood will be poured out like dust
    and their entrails like dung.

    camp fire in CA homes burning

    In the fire of his jealousy
    the whole earth will be consumed,
    for he will make a sudden end
    of all who live on the earth.

    Zephaniah 1:18b NIV

    That was then — in another land at another time. This is now, here. Yet we flee the inevitable!

    Has the Lord not reserved His righteous Judgement on the earth and its idolaters for a Day to come? Will the trumpet not sound?

    Ignoring the deep darkness

    I knew a brother who sat on a bench in the graveyard, speaking to his departed loved one measureless hours as if this lost soul had never departed. In charred remains of a building nearby roamed restless souls tormenting the faithful, tempting the saints.

    I feel your presence, he laments. Why have you not departed this scorched earth for the waterless places where souls are not quenched?

    You, blinded flesh who must see the unseen in the darkness of sin – you do not believe. Yet unseen powers would lure you and me into the pit of destruction. For the dreams of the prophets you have never believed.

    Psalm 82

    Deliver the poor and needy;
    Free them from the hand of the wicked.

    They do not know, nor do they understand;
    They walk about in darkness;
    All the foundations of the earth are unstable.

    I said, “You are gods,
    And all of you are children of the Most High.

    But you shall die like men,
    And fall like one of the princes.”

    קוּמָ֣ה אֱ֭לֹהִים שָׁפְטָ֣ה הָאָ֑רֶץ כִּֽי־אַתָּ֥ה תִ֝נְחַ֗ל בְּכָל־הַגֹּויִֽם׃

    Arise, O God, judge the earth;
    For You shall inherit all nations.

    Psalm 82:8 Masoretic Text; NKJV

    Inevitable death, Inevitable Judgment

    Isaiah 14: excerpt

    9 “Hell from beneath is excited about you,
    To meet you at your coming;
    It stirs up the dead for you,
    All the chief ones of the earth;
    It has raised up from their thrones
    All the kings of the nations.

    “How you are fallen from heaven,
    O Lucifer, son of the morning!
    How you are cut down to the ground,
    You who weakened the nations!

    Isaiah 14:12 NKJV

    13 For you have said in your heart:
    ‘I will ascend into heaven,
    I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
    I will also sit on the mount of the congregation
    On the farthest sides of the north;
    14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
    I will be like the Most High.’

    15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol,
    To the lowest depths of the Pit.

    And I ask you:

    Is this the one over whom you revel, the unseen spirit of darkness you celebrate this night?

    For by his deceit he would pull you easily down to the pit with him.

    By the sweat of your brow you have eaten the bread of a difficult life, but remember you are dust… and to dust you will return.

    The days are evil and sin clings near to the dying flesh. Have you not prepared for this time, rather than reveling in a brief respite from a quickened failing flesh?

    Prepared for Judgment

    Have you put on your armor of light? Do you bow down to the Lord God and Christ Jesus, who IS and will return to judge all mankind?

    The angel of darkness may deceive you into believing any lie, but God IS and in Christ the Lord’s mercy is offered to sinners.

    Perhaps you believe his lie that you will return to dust and then that’s it… nothing more… no accountability before God for what you have done in this brief life in the flesh.

    Would a good God not judge those who have wronged the righteous? Shall evil triumph over good?

    Not at all. For the Lord is good, full of mercy and love for His created ones. Therefore He sent His only Son to the world and out of His great mercy paid the great price of sin on the Cross so that those who love the Lord could be saved. Justice is served by the grace of Christ Jesus, sacrificed for us.

    Hebrews 9:

    He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. 27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

    Prepared by faith

    Hebrews 11:

    Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the men of old gained approval.

    3 By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible…

    6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

    7 By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

    What is your verdict?

    Knowing that your end will come, knowing that the end of the world as we know it will come; have you, like Noah, prepared for these dark days by faith? Do you seek the Lord Jesus who will return on the clouds as promised by scripture?

    The LORD has prepared a way of escape from your sin, though Jesus Christ. By his holy sacrifice for our sin God the Father has redeemed the chosen and restored our hope in these last days.

    The days are evil – you see it – and ever so brief by comparison to all eternal time beyond the judgment.

    Have you prepared to meet your Maker — to bow before the Throne of Judgment of your eternal soul?

    Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. He has prepared a new body for you for a new heaven and earth.

    So also has the Lord prepared a place of punishment for Satan – a horrific place of punishment and torment for fallen angels, fallen men and fallen women who chose evil over good. The verdict is the same for all sinners:

    GUILTY!

    Yet by the grace of Christ Jesus, will you accept God’s love and forgiveness?

    Prepare… for the days are evil and you do not know the hour or the day of your death and then … your judgment.
