    What does it mean to be saved? (What is salvation?)

     The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,

    And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death

    Light has dawned.” – Matthew 4:16 NKJV (quoting Isaiah 9:2)

    Luke 3:6 KJV And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

    Psalm 119

    English Standard Version (ESV)

    Your Word Is a Lamp to My Feet

    Kaph

    81 My soul longs for your salvation;
    I hope in your word.
    82 My eyes long for your promise;
    I ask, “When will you comfort me?”

    The word salvation occurs 164 times in the KJV of the Bible. Do you realize the importance of your salvation in Christ Jesus?

    In the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) salvation of God is hoped for and anticipated in the Person of the Messiah. It is a time of darkness and sin into which Jesus was born as a Son of Man in a manger in Bethlehem and sacrificed for our sins on a Cross in Jerusalem. Jesus IS our salvation.

    A thousand years before Christ, when David and Solomon ruled as Kings of Israel, the Law of God and His statutes were the present hope of Israel. The true hope of Israel was born in Christ Jesus, prophesied and predicted in the Psalms and by many Prophets during and following the fall of the earthly Kingdoms of Israel and Judah.

    83 For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke,
    yet I have not forgotten your statutes.
    84 How long must your servant endure?
    When will you judge those who persecute me?

    85 The insolent have dug pitfalls for me;
    they do not live according to your law.
    86 All your commandments are sure;
    they persecute me with falsehood; help me!
    87 They have almost made an end of me on earth,
    but I have not forsaken your precepts.

    88 In your steadfast love give me life,
    that I may keep the testimonies of your mouth.

    Even unbelievers know a portion of salvation:

    John 3:16-19

    16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him

    He has not saved our life for ourselves, but for His own glory.

    Jesus IS Lord and Savior.

    Into the world is born a Messiah, prophesied by John the Baptist, prophesied by his father, Zechariah, the high priest of God:

    Luke 1:76 And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High;
    for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
    77 to give knowledge of salvation to his people
    in the forgiveness of their sins,
    78 because of the tender mercy of our God,
    whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high
    79 to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
    to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

    Your Word Is a Lamp to My Feet

    Yodh (Jod)

    73 Your hands have made and fashioned me;
    give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.

    Genesis 1:26a Then God said, “Let us make man[h] in our image, after our likeness.

    Genesis 2:7 then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

    Jeremiah 1:(4-)5a  “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…

    (And the Lord said to Isaac, son of Abraham even before the Law of Moses:) Genesis 26:4-5 KJV And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

    74 Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice,
    because I have hoped in your word.

    Have you ever considered that only those who fear the Lord (the beginning of wisdom) will rejoice when they see you, because you have come to know Christ Jesus and rejoice in the word of the Lord? This is the hope and joy of Christian fellowship, our relationship in the Lord. Be comforted in the attacks of the evil ones of the world and the powers of evil we neither see nor understand.

    75 I know, O Lord, that your rules are righteous,
    and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
    76 Let your steadfast love comfort me
    according to your promise to your servant.
    77 Let your mercy come to me, that I may live;
    for your law is my delight.

    78 Let the insolent be put to shame,
    because they have wronged me with falsehood;
    as for me, I will meditate on your precepts.
    79 Let those who fear you turn to me,
    that they may know your testimonies.

    Is the righteousness of your life witness of the love of Christ Jesus? Is your whole heart and living testimony blameless?

    80 May my heart be blameless in your statutes,
    that I may not be put to shame!

    Teth

    Your Word Is a Lamp to My Feet

    Prayer is a conversation with God. He IS God and we are not.

    Therefore, our attitude is not as adam to another man. We are not equal nor do we deserve anything other than death and punishment for our sins. We must bow down to God our Master as His servant. Though a personal and approachable, loving Father, He IS the LORD.

    Teth

    65 You have dealt well with your servant,
    O Lord, according to your word.

    Has God not dealt fairly with you as a slave? Though our Father disciplines those He loves, the LORD is our Lord.

    Do we not owe our Creator obedience to His commandments and His ways?

    66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge,
    for I believe in your commandments.

    This is not the judgment of eternal punishment. It is God’s judgment of good behavior. (Roger did what is right in the eyes of the Lord, rather than did evil by lack of knowledge of God’s commandments and will for all mankind to do good and not evil.)

    Knowledge of the Lord is essential to eternal life. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: H1847 but fools despise wisdom and instruction. – Proverbs 1:7

    We tend to wander from the straight and narrow path with the Lord’s light of the commandments of scripture, don’t we?

    67 Before I was afflicted I went astray,
    but now I keep your word.
    68 You are good and do good;
    teach me your statutes.

    Thou fool! would you prefer to be bowed down to the Living God by the force of His might rather than bow down to His love by your obedience to His will?

    69 The insolent smear me with lies,
    but with my whole heart I keep your precepts;
    70 their heart is unfeeling like fat,
    but I delight in your law.

    The importance of loving God with your whole heart (and soul) is central to the teachings Hebrew scriptures. This description: Their heart is as fat as grease, is used only here in scripture. It means that without keeping God’s instruction our heart (soul) becomes insensitive. Do you not see this insensitivity in many others who deny God by their daily lives?

    71 It is good for me that I was afflicted,
    that I might learn your statutes.
    72 The law of your mouth is better to me
    than thousands of gold and silver pieces.
