Look For The Good In People! – by Darrell “Coach D” Andrews

Unlike any time in modern history, people seem to focus on and highlight—the bad in people. Politicians now run their entire campaigns not on what they can do to fix things, but the faults of their competition. Many of the reality shows are rated and considered a success, based upon the vitriol people can spew about each other. I recently watched a cooking reality show and the chefs were bashing one another! I certainly will not eat at their restaurants! Lastly, I remember being in a Church years ago where the Pastor used to make jokes about a certain denomination for their still way of worshiping God. They were not overly emotional in their workshop so he called it, “The Church of the Chosen Frozen.” Yes, this even happens in ministry.

My message to you today is not long, but please, try to look for the good in people. It is so easy to fall into the world’s system of negative thinking and fault finding, but work to do what the scripture says in Mark 12:31, “Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.” Notice the scripture did not say you have an option to do this. It tells is that we “shall.”

Fault finding most happens in families. In particular marriages. Some marriages grow cold and stale because someone is holding on to something to hate the other for. Something they said or did. The spouse can be doing 99 things right, but the other looks at the one wrong—and holds the other spouse hostage in their web of discontent. This is a tragedy when God tells us the opposite in Mark 12:31. This is why so many relationships end in divorce. Some parents do this to their kids, and kids to their parents. Some family members have not spoken in years due to faults they find in one another. A lifetime of disconnect, due to something they disagree with.

Today, choose to go against the grain. Practice loving they neighbor as thy self, especially in our families. The world has given us enough hate to view on TV, lets not carry this into our personal life.

Remember, the scripture tells us “Love never fails.”   Is it possible we are where we are today as a nation and world due to a lack of it?

Perseverance – Share your Christian social witness for Jesus Christ

Galatians 5:7 You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth?

Philippians 2:16 Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

1 Corinthians 9:24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!

Philippians 3:14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.

PERSEVERANCE! Endurance… in fact, the list is so long I will share the powerful synonyms:

backbone*, constancy, continuance, cool, dedication, determination, doggedness, drive, endurance, grit, guts*, immovability, indefatigability, moxie*, persistence, pertinacity, pluck, prolonging, purposefulness, pursuance, resolution, sedulity, spunk, stamina, steadfastness, stick-to-itiveness, tenacity

AND the antonyms, likely to convict me and you for our sometime LACK of will to spend time in the BIBLE & lack of PERSEVERANCE for our Lord Jesus Christ, who endured the Cross for us:

    apathy, idleness, indolence, laziness, lethargy

A single picture of one racing to the finish line… or a single example of the faith of an Apostle like Paul… or a singular person of perseverance like Job will invigorate our race to the finish-line of our faith to meet the Author of our salvation.

Kent Hughes, in his book 10 Disciplines of a Godly Man, points to Hebrews 12 as a guide for our perseverance.  “Divest, Run, Focus, & Consider,” is his advice for us.  When I think of any of the examples of our faith, I’m ready to get back in the race and run to the finish.

Perseverance in prayer, Bible study, thankfulness, ministering to the needs of others, regular worship and willingness to talk of Jesus to anyone — just a part of this race in which our Lord has enrolled us.

Won’t you SHARE your Social Witness for Jesus Christ?

Add a thoughtful comment about your own race and encourage another today?

Thanks. May our Lord bless you today to finish the race. – Roger – http://talkofJesus.com — Better than a sports drink for the race of Eternal Life

  • Do you believe Jesus? – I doubt it.

Do you believe Jesus? – I doubt it.

Do you despise God?  Do you always believe Jesus? I doubt it?

Numbers 14:11 And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me? And how long will they not believe in me, in spite of all the signs that I have done among them? (ESV)

Spurgeon asks: Do you add weight to Jesus’ crown of thorns?

I probably do all too often. (Forgive us, Lord.)

What more convicting words do we hear than some from God through Moses, the Prophets, the letter writers of the New Testament and especially Jesus:

    O you of little faith…

    Oh, foolish Galatians…

You who are so slow to believe…

Of course you doubt your Bible. You probably need to read your Bible more and pray about what you have read. I do.

Charles Spurgeon’s daily devotional ‘Morning and Evening’ urged faithful followers to do just that.

My thanks to Truth For Life and the broadcast ministry of Alistair Begg for use of Spurgeon’s devotional message to help me talk of Jesus this morning.
