Denominations / Why can’t we all just get along?

It’s a great question isn’t it? And from this street-level philosopher we might extrapolate questions like: “Why can’t all the church just get along?” or “Why can’t churches of ALL denominations just get along?” or “Shouldn’t OUR church teach tolerance of all poor street philosophers and inclusively preach THEIR philosophies from every religion?”

    THEIR Two-faced ‘Tolerance

“Why can’t all the church just get along?”

Because we are ALL sinners. WE accuse the brethren of OTHER denominations while lacking discernment of our own fledgling flock of philosophers.

And this is NO different for the philosophers who deceivingly call THEMSELVES a ‘church.’

Returning to close examination of the PLANK in OUR own ‘evangelical christian’ eye, let’s review the theological discernment shared in our previous two Saturday Posts:

Christology and Theology may be at odds with prevailing social philosophy which USES a loose interpretation of the Bible to fill the house with non-committal christians.

The shift from ‘accepting the existence of different views’ to ‘acceptance of different views’ .. is subtle in form, but massive in substance. To accept that a different or opposing position exists is one thing; to accept the position itself means that one is no longer opposing it.

D.A. Carson, The Intolerance of Tolerance

    Something’s wrong with our church!

(So why not RECALL it & fix it?) QUESTION what OUR church teaches AND build it back to be all-inclusive and tolerant.

In deconstruction everything is a SOCIAL construction, including the church.

Darrell Harrison – Just Thinking podcast

As a watchman on the wall Harrison points to the strategy of deconstructionist everythingologist preachers of the false gospel:

Once WE accept the philosophy that the CHURCH is a SOCIALLY constructed system, NOT a divinely ordained institution that originated in the mind of God..

    • THEN the church falls into disbelief.
    • CONSEQUENTLY these fledgling lambs of the faith will be led to the slaughter.

    Deconstructionists

    • ASSUME a HUMAN faith which WE need to fix.
    • YET try to follow the illogic of philosophers who preach that:
      • ALL of these DENOMINATIONS ‘can just get along.
Something's wrong with our church! church denominations

    Denominations / Divide and Conquer

    Why the attack on Christians?

    • Christians claim the LARGEST RELIGION in the world! [< 2 BILLION souls]
      • Worldwide about three out of every ten people are Christians.
        • In the U.S. about three out of four people claim Christianity as their faith (mostly Protestant) &
        • In Mexico and Brazil about 9 out of 10 claim Christianity (mostly Roman Catholic)
      • Roman Catholics are the largest denomination with about one billion communicants worldwide.
      • 12% of the world population claim Orthodox Christian denominations with about 40% of the 260 million living in officially atheistic Russia.
      • ~800 MILLION Protestant Christians [37% of the world population] can be divided into < 40,000 denominations

    Major Monotheistic Religions

Why can’t believers in the One God just get along?

    • Islam claims almost 2 billion worshipers of Mohammed
      • Sunni Islam is the largest denomination with about <85% or about 1.6 billion followers
      • Shi’ism or Shia Islam is the second-largest Muslim denomination and divided into additional sub-denominations.
      • SEE THEIR intolerance toward OTHER religions below.
    • Judaism, the original Abrahamic faith prior to Jesus Christ (1st c. A.D.) and Muhammed (7th c. A.D.), retains just a remnant of the world’s population with >15 MILLION worshipers, further divided into several religious schools of thought, culture and worship.
lines of division of Christianity chart
    Church Divided

    Catholic ‘kata-holos’ universal

    • IF Catholic = Universal, how then can ‘christians‘ call BOTH the Roman Catholic and the Orthodox a ‘Christian Church?’
      • Did the fall of Rome or any empire of the world separate Christians from Christ?
    • Yet IF Universal = Catholic + EVERYBODY ELSE; the PHILOSOPHER then becomes the Pope with no clothes, as well as a stone ‘thinker’ with failed logic.
      • The religion of the Universal ‘Church’ is NO religion except ALL religions.
    • WHY can’t YOU Christians and non-Christians all just get along?
      • The Agnostic acknowledges that GOD IS; but like so many other truths, THEY cannot prove it.
    • On the other face of the religion of philosophy, an A-theist by definition professes a religion AGAINST the god of their philosophy.
      • ANY reasonably constructed religion accepted except the intolerance of Christians!
WE will RECONSTRUCT from OUR common ground.

Let’s invite the Pope to confess OUR sins against indigenous Americans of the past. He could wear a chief’s bonnet in place of his Roman MITRE. (Just instruct his holiness NOT to mention Jesus Christ.) He could help save OUR environment.

AND cultural Jews – they’re like us, so we can study their original faith. (Just don’t mention that Jesus called some of them whitewashed tombs or Christian claims that JESUS and the Father are ONE, or many other intolerant things JESUS said.)

Of course we have common ground with our Muslim brothers. (Maybe we can get them to give women some rights if we accept some of their very good examples of regular faith.) WE even know some at work (and they are all hard workers) who have even accepted Christians into THEIR Islamic faith and married into THEIR Muslim family.

    coexist and tolerance = apostasy

Religion is a dirty word in the 21st century public square and an evangelical Christian the most offensive icon of intolerance to be mocked in social media.

Other Faiths & Many Truths (not to mention gods‘)

Let’s talk about culture. (WE can create it better.)

    • The CURRENT WORLD POPULATION includes nearly 8 BILLION human souls.
    • There are 18.6 million Asian Americans living in the US, making up 6% of the US population
      • Nearly 400 million Christians live in Asia (5 regions), while just 230 million Christians live in N. America.
    • China has a population of 1.4 BILLION souls and although officially the PEOPLE are ATHEISTS, more Christians evangelize their faith in China than in much of the U.S.
      • Unofficially, Chinese folk religions comprise ~22% of the population, Buddhists ~14%, Christians about 5% (~74 MILLION disciples of Christ) PLUS 52% of the Chinese population are “unaffiliated” with ANY religion [probably safest even for many Christians]
        • (Could the intolerance of evangelical Christians in America become the officialfreedom FROM religion’ in the U.S.?)
      • Open Doors USA estimates the number of Christians in China to be 96,700,000
    • #India, a mostly English-speaking country [in addition to Hindi] increasingly embraces Hinduism
      • with 1.25 BILLION believers worldwide.
      • A Pew research study comparing religions shows a growing intolerance of ‘minority monotheistic religions’ such as Islam & Christianity.
      • The persecution of Christians in India is intensifying as Hindu extremists aim to cleanse the country of their presence and influence. Open Doors ranks the level of persecution as comparable to that of Iran and India’s Islamist neighbors of Pakistan & Afghanistan.
    Intolerant Karma

Not only do a majority of Hindus in India (77%) believe in karma, but an identical percentage of Muslims do, too.

A third of Christians in India (32%) – together with 81% of Hindus – say they believe in the purifying power of the Ganges River, a central belief in Hinduism.

    Source: PEW RESEARCH CENTER

YET note intolerance of many surveyed in 2019-2020 in India:

    • ..members of India’s major religious communities often don’t feel they have much in common with one another.
    • Many Indians, across a range of religious groups, say it is very important to stop people in their community from marrying into other religious groups.
      • Roughly two-thirds of Hindus in India want to prevent interreligious marriages of Hindu women (67%) or Hindu men (65%).
      • Even larger shares of Muslims feel similarly: 80% say it is very important to stop Muslim women from marrying outside their religion, and 76% say it is very important to stop Muslim men from doing so.
    Who is my neighbor?

    Denominations of Neighborhoods

It’s NOT just the Church which divides itself, but socially constructed systems of cities, communities, clubs, political parties, schools, work.. and yes, shunned minorities (like Christians) NOT tolerated by the majority.

To further quote the PEW study:

Indians, then, simultaneously express enthusiasm for religious tolerance and a consistent preference for keeping their religious communities in segregated spheres – they live together separately. These two sentiments may seem paradoxical, but for many Indians they are not.

The study goes on to mention the mythical ‘melting pot’ approach of ‘other’ countries. NO forced integration there, just two-faced tolerance of paradoxical convenience.

WHY can’t WE all just get along?

Integration of culture (or religion) risks ruining the unique values of individuals, as well as trespassing upon any inviolable Truth part and parcel of those individuals who cling to our worship of the Lord our God and Jesus Christ.

IF our evangelical Christian denomination is NOT different from the religions of the world, the philosophers of humanism, the teachings of the false prophets or the inclusiveness of all the idols which are NOT God, THEN WHY would any soul from another culture come to the community of faith in CHRIST JESUS or fellowship of love and worship of God by grace?

IF our GOSPEL of eternal life in the Lord Jesus Christ promised in Scripture is ONLY available to those who will repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, WHY would a denomination or church tolerate ANY teaching which might lead many lost sheep into the dark deceptions of death’s doctrines?

so that the name of God and our doctrine will not be slandered.

1 Timothy 6 – Instructions to Those Who Serve

If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.
    - I Timothy 6:3-6 New King James Version

So withdraw yourself from such as cannot tolerate OUR intolerance FOR refusing to once again crucify Christ.

  • ONLY SCRIPTURE: The Highest Authority of GOD!

ONLY SCRIPTURE: The Highest Authority of GOD!

What is perhaps the most divisive issue of the ages? THE AUTHORITY OF SCRIPTURE! – ONLY Scripture.

    And GOD SAID..!

Who said, God said this or that?

Must we consult the authority of a man? Dare we follow such a teacher? How can I know IF God really said it and where can I find the TRUTH of what I must do?

“It is written: ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT COMES OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.’”

Gospel of Matthew 4:4b +Response of the Messiah (Christ) Jesus to satan.

EVERY written WORD! Trouble is (and was) that MOST could not read OR would not read what is written.

So our dilemma becomes faith in the authority of a man reciting AND teaching the WORD OF GOD; that is, SCRIPTURE.

“Assemble the people, the men, the women, the children, and the stranger who is in your town, so that they may hear and learn H3925 [לָמַד ] and fear the LORD your God, and be careful to follow all the words of this Law And their children, who have not known, will hear and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as you live on the land..

Deuteronomy 31:12-13a NASB20 – The teaching of Moses

Our Lord Jesus Christ raises a crucial question of interpretation by even the highest of religious authorities who study Scripture.

Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not understand the Scriptures nor the power of God?

    Gospel of Mark 12:24 NASB20

Do we trust that a man interprets the TRUTH of SCRIPTURE from what is written?

Could it be that YOU do NOT understand the Scriptures? (Do you overlook the power of God in what YOU have misinterpreted from Scripture?)

‘Words [logos egō, λόγος ἐγώ – gk] of Mine’

“You shall therefore take these words of mine to heart and to soul; and you shall tie them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets on your forehead. – Moses

“And everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. – Jesus Parable of the wise and foolish builder

    Deuteronomy 11:18; Matthew 7:26 NASB20

Christ Jesus taught His Apostles to build a foundation of the church grounded in Scripture. These disciples of the Teacher recorded in writing the truth of Jesus’ authority.

And it happened when Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching, for He was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.

Gospels of Matthew [7:28-29 NASB20] and Luke

    After His resurrection Scripture records:

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.

    Matthew 28:18 NASB20 – authority

The Apostle John even begins his Gospel by connecting the Written Word {logos} with a Higher Authority of Christ Jesus, Son of Man, the Only Son of God!

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

What happens when authoritative men (Shepherds of God’s flock), fail to reiterate SCRIPTURE accurately or teach God’s Holy Word of TRUTH fully?

Jesus IS the Higher Authority who challenged the Scribes and other Shepherds of Israel for this very reason. A remnant of the LORD’s leaders recognized their Messiah from the written word of Scripture. The flocks of the lost sheep of Israel heard the Higher Authority of Jesus and followed Him.

Christ’s resurrection of the true word of God became veiled once more by errant teachings of the Church. As in the days of Ezra the written word of Scripture would be forgotten and men once more had to trust the teachings of religious leaders for centuries. Scripture would once again be discovered by the lost sheep of Christ’s flock with the good news of the printing press.

Then the faithful of the flock protested. The saints of the Church read Scripture for their own understanding through the Holy Spirit as given to them.

IV. The authority of the Holy Scripture, for which it ought to be believed and obeyed, dependeth not upon the testimony of any man, or Church; but wholly upon God (who is truth itself) the author thereof: and therefore it is to be received because it is the Word of God.(i)

VI. The whole counsel of God concerning all things necessary for His own glory, man’s salvation, faith, and life, is either expressly set down in Scripture, or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from Scripture: unto which nothing at any time is to be added, whether by new revelations of the Spirit, or traditions of men.(m)

The infallible rule of interpretation of Scripture is the Scripture itself

IX. The infallible rule of interpretation of Scripture is the Scripture itself: and therefore, when there is a question about the true and full sense of any Scripture (which is not manifold, but one), it must be searched and known by other places that speak more clearly.(y)

    (y) II Pet. 1:20, 21; Acts 15:15, 16.

    X. The supreme judge by which all controversies of religion are to be determined, and all decrees of councils, opinions of ancient writers, doctrines of men, and private spirits, are to be examined; and in whose sentence we are to rest; can be no other but the Holy Spirit speaking in the Scripture.(z)

    (z) Matt. 22:29, 31; Eph. 2:20 with Acts 28:25.

Scripture is therefore the perfect and only standard of spiritual truth, revealing infallibly all that we must believe in order to be saved and all that we must do in order to glorify God. That—no more, no less—is what sola Scriptura means. – John MacArthur

“The whole counsel of God, concerning all things necessary for his own glory, man’s salvation, faith, and life, is either expressly set down in scripture, or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from scripture: unto which nothing at any time is to be added, whether by new revelations of the Spirit, or traditions of men.” —Westminster Confession of Faith

This excerpt is taken from John MacArthur’s contribution in Sola Scriptura: The Protestant Position on the Bible.

    Sola ScripturaOnly Scripture

Only Scripture. So what must I do?

Since WE trust the absolute truth of God in ‘what is written,’ and acknowledge that Jesus Christ IS God, we must trust the very Word of God — in writing — and revealed through the Holy Spirit ONLY in SCRIPTURE.

    AND the interpretation of Scripture?

    • Can a group of learned Christian leaders provide the ONLY interpretation of the word of God?
    • Will one High Shepherd of the Church give the ONLY valid application of ‘what is written’ in the Bible?
    • And might the Holy Spirit reveal any unseen truth of the Lord Jesus Christ which will overturn ‘what is written’ in Holy Scripture?

According to Christ Jesus and Holy Scripture, CERTAINLY NOT!

For this reason we must pay much closer attention to the things that have been heard, so that we do not drift away from it..

God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders, and by various works of power and by distributions of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.

    Hebrews 2:1 NASB20 READ Heb. 1-4

Who can say what God really said?

    Can you? May I?

Leaders of men appointed by God certainly must know better than we how to interpret Scripture (perhaps).

Will encyclical instruction of a Pope or clerical council confirm any new TRUTH of Scripture? Does a mere man enter a place of mystery to contradict what Scripture has already said? Has some new Prophet come along who claimed to unveil ‘what God said?’

    OR

    Does SCRIPTURE ALONE interpret Scripture?

“The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”

But this He said in reference to the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive..

Gospel of John 7:38039a NASB – Promise of the Christ, Jesus.

And born again believers will receive the Holy Spirit to interpret Scripture. According to Christ Jesus the HOLY SPIRIT will interpret Scripture to ‘those who believe.’

Therefore, once more the Doctrine of Scripture, in order to teach the HIGHEST Authority of God leaves no other choice for one in Christ.

    SOLA SCRIPTURA & the Reformation

Do you recognize my DOCTRINE of the BIBLE topic today as Sola Scriptura, one of the Five Solas of the Protestant Reformation? I cannot address the remaining crucial doctrines of the church today, but I will introduce them here.

Five Solas of the Protestant Reformation

"Sola" is Latin meaning "alone" or "only" and the corresponding phrases are:
    1. Perhaps first in importance is: Sola Fide, by faith alone
    2. Sola Scriptura, by Scripture alone
    3. Solus Christus, through Christ alone
    4. Sola Gratia, by grace alone
    5. Soli Deo Gloria, glory to God alone

    THE Church AND Scripture

chalkboard - written Sola Scriptura! Only Scripture

    Doctrine of the BIBLE

The BIBLE IS HOLY – Spoken by God, Written by Men and confirmed by the Holy Spirit.

    SCRIPTURE ONLY interprets Scripture.

The line in the sand delineates two choices:

    • SCRIPTURE OR the Authority of the Church
    • Scripture AND an AUTHORITY of the church.

NOT any earthly ‘authority‘ AND Scripture

IN the 15th and 16th centuries, Ulrich Zwingli, Martin Luther, Thomas Cranmer, John Calvin and many other faithful saints of the Church sought to reform Roman catholic [καθολικός katholikos ‘universal’] worship and traditions which had become corrupted over the centuries.

As Good News from Gutenberg’s printing press [c. A.D.1440] spread throughout Europe and the world, many saints of the Church could read the BIBLE. The Protestant Reformers, who had hoped to renew the faith of the ‘catholic’ Church, consequently drew their line in the sand on the side of SCRIPTURE ALONE and stood their ground.

Corrupted ‘christian’ churches of recent centuries (Protestant by denomination, but not by DOCTRINE) preach many heresies directly opposed to the ‘written Word of God’ in Scripture.

Conclusion: Only Scripture conveys God’s Highest Authority

The BIBLE IS HOLY! The LORD GOD IS HOLY! God speaks. “It is written..”

Only Scripture – Sola Scriptura, as the Protestant reformers reminded, can assure an accommodating 21st century ‘christian‘ church which struggles to go in to all the world without a Doctrine of the Bible.

No other authority will convince perishing flesh of God’s great mercy on mankind for those who love and worship Him by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. For many false teachers and false prophets do mislead the faithful away from God’s word.

The early Creeds of the Church and Confessions of faith all confirm this from Scripture, but only Scripture through the Holy Spirit can reveal God’s will for those who believe.

Only Scripture speaks the very Word of God through the Holy Spirit directly into the hearts of those who the Lord chooses. Believers, Christians – Bible believing Christians who confess Christ crucified, buried, risen in the body and ascended into heaven.

    IT IS WRITTEN.. in SCRIPTURE

WE have it on THE HIGHEST AUTHORITY: The Bible speaks God’s word through the men who authored its Holy Books.

For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty...

And so we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.

20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture becomes a matter of someone’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

Excerpt from the Second Letter of the Apostle Peter to the Church

THE BIBLE IS HOLY – ONLY Scripture – The Highest Authority of GOD!

  • PK’s, EK’s, DK’s: Our kids; God’s kids – 2

    PK’s, EK’s, DK’s: Our kids; God’s kids – 2

What does the Lord require of the leaders of His church?

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. – from the First Letter of John 2:1

Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. – from the First Letter of Simon Peter 2:11

Train up a child in the way he should go,
Even when he is old he will not depart from it. – Proverbs 22:6

Suppose for a moment, that Jesus had been married (or living in sin as some heretics would claim). Who would we look to for example for a woman? Jesus’ wife! A woman of the flesh, imperfect though joined to our Lord. Again, NOT God’s plan.

And suppose, further, that Jesus and a wife of the flesh had children in the way all of us have children. To whom would the world and the church look to for establishing and building Jesus’ MEGA-church to go into all the world? Again, in the traditions of ancestry: the PREACHER’S KID. Some responsibility, right? Yet in His omniscient wisdom, God the Father had no such plan.

Jesus was not married. Jesus had no children of the flesh (as we are born as sons of a sinful man and of a sinful woman born of a sinful mother and father in adam).

Peter, however, was married. As was the custom, there may have been sons and daughters of Mister and Missus Simon Peter: Preacher’s Kids. Yet we do not hear of these. For that matter, we hear very little about the wives of the Apostles, including Peter’s wife whose mother Jesus healed.

We hear little of the women of the church (only occasionally of a mother or sister of the church noted for her humble service and faithfulness). For that matter, we hear little of Simon Peter, Christ-appointed successor to unify the Apostles in the Gospel through the Holy Spirit. Without Peter’s approval, without Jesus’ brother James’ approval and without the approval of the risen Christ Himself and the Holy Spirit, Paul (Saul of Tarsus) would not have been preaching to the church and writing letters to the churches, as did the other Apostles.

Without the leadership of the Spirit, Paul could not have instructed Timothy in the leadership of the church as the Gospel takes root in the adopted souls of the generations.

Yet understand that some of Paul’s instructions for the church are cultural, while other instructions of leadership point to the most important character of the leadership and members of the body of Christ we call ‘the church’ or the ‘saints.’

    1 Timothy 1
    English Standard Version (ESV)

… the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.

PK fishAgainst this contrast of sin and worldliness, Paul lays out examples of leadership and the character REQUIRED of leaders of the church under constant scrutiny by the congregation they lead; a pastor, elder, bishop or deacon watched closely by a world they would lead to Christ.

Just imagine the lives of Peter’s kids or any Preacher’s Kids in the probing eyes of others as the child of witnesses for the Lord who said, “I will make you fishers of men.”

We learned in Acts of the Apostles that Peter and the Disciples and appointed Deacons were first and foremost servants of the church and the body of believers. By the instructions of Christ our Lord they did not lord it over one another.

Our Lord, Christ Jesus does not suggest any arch-Apostle or Bishop over bishops. We are instructed to love and serve one another, even as Christ humbled Himself to serve sinful man.

Yet Paul emphasizes Christ-like requirements in the leaders of Christ’s church:

     1 Timothy 3

Therefore an overseer [episkopos or Bishop] must be above reproach,

the husband of one wife, [Note that an unmarried man would NOT qualify; nor a woman: married or unmarried]

sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

    • not a drunkard,
    • not violent but gentle,
    • not quarrelsome,
    • not a lover of money. [Preachers of prosperity wouldn’t qualify.]
    • He must manage his own household well…

[The KJV states: ‘ruleth well his own house.’  We don’t cherish the idea of even a pastor ruling over us, do we?

However as prerequisite he must rule also over his wife and his children with the love and charity of Christ Jesus. Any leader of Christ’s church must rule over people, priorities, time and money with maturity and discernment of the Spirit.]

    • … with all dignity keeping his children submissive, [Lookout, P.K’s: it means obedience.]

for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?

[An excellent point of the Apostle Paul.

Do you want a man without such charitable rule over those under his care at home to have authority over your church?

For that matter, should a ‘father’ with no children instruct you and your wife and your children how to live and witness as a family in Christ Jesus? {Controversial, in these later last centuries of a broken church body.}]

    Paul continues:

He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil.  Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.

Quite a list for a leader of the church, is it not?

Can any Bishop or Elder of the church live up to this perfection without some failing of flesh? Certainly not in his own will; yet it is the standard to which our leaders are held accountable. Certainly the Preacher’s wife and Preacher’s Kids are also viewed in the spotlight of this higher standard. May God help them.

To this Paul adds requirements for Deacons:

    Deacons likewise must be dignified,

They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.  And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless.

And now Paul reiterates requirements for wives of Deacons and requirements for Deacons the same as the high standard for Pastors and for Elders:

11 Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things.

Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well.

For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

    To be continued…
