Heaven is imagined to be many different things by many different people, yet scripture guarantees the glory of heaven is worship of the LORD forever. Scripture also describes heaven as Holy. Christ Jesus IS the only way we will live to worship God in heaven forever.

  • Some Shall Stumble Before the Finish

    The Race of our Days

1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize?

So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.

    2016 Olympic Gold Medal
    2016 Olympic Gold Medal

‘A gold medal for the winner’ we think as we watch the Olympics. One winner, two receive more also receive a medal from only a few qualify for the final race.

Many more have come to the great race with hopes of victory, yet most will return home in obscurity with only a brief memory of coming up short of the prize, the gold medal of victory.

From Rome Apostle Paul wrote back to believers in Corinth, a city just 131 miles [211 km] from Olympia. The Greeks, or Hellenists as they were called for centuries after defeat and domination under Rome, understood the imagery of the race – the race of life, even the race of eternity with distance we cannot see and a finish line known only to God.

olympia457A thousand years before Paul the powerful King Solomon of the empire of the the United Kingdom of Israel had written:

    Ecclesiastes 9:

11 Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all. 12 For man does not know his time.

“..time and chance happen to them all. For man does not know his time. – Ecc. 9:11b-12

Perhaps you believe your life will be a marathon, even a marathon of drudgery or pain or defeat. Maybe you think your finish line is far distant. Perhaps. Yet think once more of what you know.

Do you know one who raced in life’s briefest of sprints? Were you startled at their sudden finish when they were no more?

    The Race Toward Heaven

If you believe in the Lord God Almighty; if you believe that you were created for a purpose; then you seek the Kingdom of Heaven – the finish of life which ends in eternal reward.

Jesus was asked about about Heaven, about the course of our race of  this life. What glimpse of the finish has our Lord given us? What course has God laid before us until we breathe our last with some hope of gold?

If you could ask the Messiah of God, Christ Jesus a question about who God is going to save for eternal life wouldn’t it probably be something like this?

“Lord, will those who are saved be few?”

I’m not sure about you, but that’s what I think. I believe I am pretty special. (Maybe you do too.) Of course not everyone will be saved – most don’t want to be anywhere near God; but I do. You probably do too, as one of the few I believe Jesus will save.

So the man asks about the finals thinking, ‘How do we get to heaven?’ Jesus gives us a glance at the eternal finish.

    Parable of the Narrow Door

    Luke 13:

And he said to them, 24 “Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

I would wonder: Lord, do you mean it’s a door at the end of life – a finish where I cannot see what is on the other side?

25 When once the master of the house has risen and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, open to us,’ then he will answer you, ‘I do not know where you come from.’

Shocking! I ‘go to church’ and work for charities. We give money to causes. Good people like us hope Jesus will save us… And Jesus answers, ‘I do not know you?’

26 Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’

27 But he will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you come from.

Depart from me, all you workers of evil!’,

I thought all the good I was doing would get me the Gold medal… Hell! Not Heaven, Hell – I have had enough of that in this life and Jesus calls me a worker of evil. How does a sinner like me escape Hell and be welcomed in Heaven?

    I have run the race…

Did I mention that Paul, the former Saul of Tarsus was a great sinner?

All of the Apostles including Paul preached repentance, true repentance and turning from what we were toward the sinless soul God wants us to be.

The grace of God’s mercy overflows in forgiveness found only in Christ Jesus.

You must be born again, sinless, in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Have you had a false start in this life? Do you truly desire another chance though our Lord Christ, Living and resurrected Son of God our Father? Here the encouragement of the writer of the letter to the Hebrews:

    Hebrews 12:

… let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.- Heb 12:1b-2

6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.”

7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. – Heb 12:11

So the great sinner who once persecuted and murdered follower of Jesus repented. Paul sought to live his new life in Christ Jesus in purity and sinlessness to his highest ability; yet humbly acknowledged the sinful nature of his own – the sinful nature of you as well… even the most sinful tendencies from which my own flesh must turn daily.

Paul states near the end of his life in a second letter to his successor Timothy, before being executed for his witness for Jesus Christ:

    2 Timothy 4:

5 As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. – 2 Tim 4:7

8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

    The Gold Medal of Faith

Paul is telling Timothy about the gold medal, the crown given only to one who wins the race.

Do you stumble in the race of eternity?

Lay all of your earthly crowns at the feet of Jesus. He IS Lord; Who IS and was and will be the keeper of the door beyond the narrow gate?

Christ Jesus came into this world to crown sinners with grace – eternal life, His rich reward of God’s eternal love.

Beloved of Jesus, do not stumble; for He stands at the door with His crown of righteousness.

    Follow After Me -6-Pliable christians

Warning! ‘Coexist’ & ‘Tolerance’ are tools of false teaching, unscriptural paths away from the truth of Jesus Christ as our only Lord and Savior.

    Pliable ‘christians’ follow Christ quickly

So many churches full of tradition but not worshipers. So many ‘christians’ full of themselves but not the LORD. Pliable christians are dazzled by the picture of heaven, but are unwilling to sacrifice their sin before the Cross.

    Luke 9:

Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus

23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. 25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? 26 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. 27 But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”

Oh, how we long for the kingdom of God! Heaven, as we may imagine it (as opposed to scriptural description).

2 Corinthians 5:2 New Living Translation (NLT)

We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing.

wolfJesus is in fashion again! OR Jesus is out of fashion again. Some had been invited to hear our fresh music at church. A preacher with his hand out promises falsely, you can have your best life now. Then after a while, for some unknown reason, these new christians seem to have disappeared. They were pliable christians who listened for a while and hung out with the church crowd. Jesus was doing something for them on Sundays. What happened to their ‘faith’ in prosperity?

When did they stop coming on Sunday? Where did they go? Maybe they decided another church would be better for them. No one hears from them again.

John 12:25 New Living Translation (NLT)

Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity.

Although the Gospel is Good News to the lost, the truth of the Gospel is bad news for those who reject the cross. Some engage Jesus for a while.

Yet pliable christians follow you or follow a smiling preacher or follow a worship entertainment or follow a guaranteed giving. These are fed hope for this life by doing church for a time. Pliable christians then fall away when asked to deny themselves, rather than to deny Jesus, the Christ of the Living God.

Do you deny yourself to worship the Lord?

Have you suffered at least some verbal abuse because you mention that Jesus is your Lord? Are you ashamed to mention that you worship the Lord every Sunday and have real loving relationships with our fellow souls of your local church?

Everybody wants to get to heaven… just ask anybody. Jesus tells us that heaven is only attainable through Him. Challenge anyone trying to find himself with that one.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. – John 14:6

The scriptures speak of heaven and the Lord Jesus coming down, yet the pliable ones fear public opinion of mortal men over the judgment granted to the Son of Man, Christ Jesus.

    1 Thessalonians 4

    The Coming of the Lord

13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.

16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

We would all be pliable christians if heaven were so easily attained as to not require Christ’s Cross.

  • Wisdom Cries Out

    Wisdom Cries Out

Proverbs 8: NKJV Does not wisdom cry out,
And understanding lift up her voice?
2 She takes her stand on the top of the high hill,
Beside the way, where the paths meet.
3 She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city,
At the entrance of the doors:

    4 “To you, O men, I call,
And my voice is to the sons of men.
5 O you simple ones, understand prudence,
And you fools, be of an understanding heart.

Wisdom cries out! She calls out from the mountaintop. She echos the Truth of the Almighty from Mount Gerizim and Mount Moriah, from Mount Sinai and the Mount of Olives.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

From the echo of the Voice of Truth, through unclean lips of the Prophet; from the highest mountain of the Law to the lowest manger of the cattle and fields of sheep: Truth is born as a Son of Man and speaks softly to those who will hear. You without deafening distraction hear what the Truth of wisdom would say to your soul.

Proverbs 8:6 Listen, for I will speak of excellent things,
    And from the opening of my lips will come right things;
    7 For my mouth will speak truth;
Wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
    8 All the words of my mouth are with righteousness;
Nothing crooked or perverse is in them.

Yet we will not sit in silence before the Very Voice of wisdom and hear what Christ Jesus would instruct to our wayward and crooked paths. (Do YOU read His gospel truth before you begin your way in this day?)

Hebrews 1: God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things…

Proverbs 9:Wisdom has built her house,
    She has hewn out her seven pillars;
2 She has slaughtered her meat,
    She has mixed her wine,
She has also furnished her table.
3 She has sent out her maidens,
She cries out from the highest places of the city,
4 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”

You with ears to hear, hear the Voice of Truth.

Or will you yet hear the distraction of the devil, the beguiler of your soul by the lies of his snare?

Luke 22:“For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves. But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials. And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”

Matthew 13:Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way…

…at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.” ’ ”

If Satan had asked to sift the soul of Simon Peter as chaff, will the snarer of souls not also seek to turn you from the wisdom of Truth?

    Do YOU read your Bible?

Do YOU hear the invitation of Christ Jesus (with ears to hear) and do you continue with Jesus as your Lord, even in the trials of this life of distraction?

OR have you missed the invitation of the Banquet; for Wisdom will not beg your repentance and obedience.

Proverbs 9: 6 Forsake foolishness and live,
And go in the way of understanding.

7 “He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself,
And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.
    8 Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you;
Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
    9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Jesus IS and will return. He will judge all sin and unrighteousness with wisdom and truth. He will gather the chaff; neither will those who only claim Him while wandering the paths of wickedness be seated at the Table of His mercy and love.

Luke 6:46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?”

The persistent fool will not receive the cleansed robe of His righteousness.

     Matthew 22:

The Parable of the Wedding Feast

And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said:

2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, 3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come.

4 Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.”’

5 But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business…

8 Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy…

11 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. 12 So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Though wisdom and Truth have called sinners and fools to the feast, only the humble and repentant will receive the Lord’s robe of righteousness.

The King, in His mercy, has demonstrated much patience; that you might now accept His invitation to come among the guests.

    Revelation 19:

5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying, “Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, both[c] small and great!”

6 And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! 7 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” 8 And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

9 Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.”

12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:

    KING OF KINGS AND
    LORD OF LORDS.

You with ears to hear, hear; for our Lord will not always contend with the dust of the earth and the chaff of the harvest.
