    A Temporary Throne – 41

    CHAPTER 41

I then saw a tree, beside where the man Jacob stood, before his journey to the time, place and altar the LORD had just revealed.

Genesis 35:2 So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you and purify yourselves and change your garments.

3 Then let us arise and go up to Bethel, so that I may make there an altar to the God who answers me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone.”

Jacob stood by a grave-like hole with an ancient-type shovel to one side next to a mound of broken earth. Into the small grave Jacob tossed bhudda-like carved idols in the shapes of men, of women, of birds and of fierce animals – many of mythical proportions with attributes unlike any actual man, woman or animal.

4 So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods that they had, and the rings that were in their ears. Jacob hid them under the terebinth tree that was near Shechem.

I observed a scene of passing time in the Presence of the LORD like snapshots of individual emotions and thoughts in a time standing still, while the caravan moved through time and place in a fast-forward movie-like scene of history moving before my very eyes.

5 And as they journeyed, a terror from God fell upon the cities that were around them, so that they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.

I understood the terror of the people in the surrounding cities to the caravan of Jacob moving through time and place; for I was in the Presence of the LORD through all this – in awe of His Presence, though not in fear.

We returned once more to the high place in the mountains of the altar.

6 And Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him,7 and there he built an altar and called the place El-bethel, because there God had revealed himself to him when he fled from his brother…

9 God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan-aram, and blessed him.10 And God said to him,

“Your name is Jacob; no longer shall your name be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name.”

So he called his name Israel.

11 And God said to him, “I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply.

    A Temporary Throne – 33

     CHAPTER 33

Genesis 32 9 Then Jacob said, “O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, the Lord who said to me, ‘Return to your country and to your family, and I will deal well with you’: 10 I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies… 11 Deliver me, I pray… and the mother with the children. 12 For You said, ‘I will surely treat you well, and make your descendants as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.’”

COME, ROGER. WE WILL ANSWER JACOB’S PRAYER.
REFEREE RIGHTLY BETWEEN ME AND JACOB.

Once more, at God’s Command (again, in answer to prayer), we descended from THE THRONE to an isolated place on the earth.

It was night. As Jacob slept, THE LORD fell on him and having the advantage of surprise, prevailed, as Jacob grabbed at HIM and kept HIM near, then gained an upper hand.

When THE LORD was at disadvantage to Jacob, THE LORD did not let Jacob loose, either, and continued the struggle.

Genesis 32: 25 Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. 26 And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.”
But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!”
27 So He said to him, “What is your name?”
    He said, “Jacob.”

THE LORD and Jacob looked to me: I judged a draw.

THE LORD and Jacob loosed each other and THE LORD blessed Jacob.

28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

    A Temporary Throne – 31

    CHAPTER 31

Gen. 29:18 Now Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, “I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.”  19 And Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you than that I should give her to another man.

IT WAS NOT MY WILL THAT LABAN SHOULD GIVE EITHER DAUGHTER TO ANOTHER MAN.

JACOB LOVED RACHEL.  JACOB BECAME ONE IN THE FLESH WITH LEAH.

24 And Laban gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah as a maid. 25 So it came to pass in the morning, that behold, it was Leah.

“Couldn’t Jacob have just been faithful to his one wife, Leah, and returned with her only?”

AFTER SEVEN YEARS JACOB MARRIED LEAH IN THE FLESH,

YET JACOB WAS ALREADY MARRIED TO RACHEL IN SPIRIT.

28 Then Jacob did so and fulfilled her week.

I HAD WILLED THESE FOUR WIVES TO JACOB FOR MY COVENANT WITH ABRAHAM.

THESE FOUR MARRIAGES HAD MY BLESSING.

YET OF JACOB’S WIVES AND CHILDREN, I GAVE MY HIGHEST BLESSING TO THE WIFE JACOB LOVED.

THEIR CHILDREN WERE TO RECEIVE THE FRUIT OF THEIR LOVE THROUGH MY BLESSING.

So he gave him his daughter Rachel as wife also. 29 And Laban gave his maid Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as a maid. 30 Then Jacob also went in to Rachel, and he also loved Rachel more than Leah. And he served with Laban still another seven years.

“Therefore, Israel and his four wives were fruitful and multiplied, as you had commanded man since Noah.”

SINCE THE BEGINNING, ROGER, MY COMMAND OF BLESSING TO ADAM AND EVE – TO A MAN AND A WOMAN OF BLESSING.
