    Your Word Is a Lamp to My Feet

    Heth (Cheth)

    57 The Lord is my portion;
    I promise to keep your words.

    The LORD is my portion.

    What does this mean to you?

    To begin, let us disavow the popular preaching from the mega-pulpits of false teaching that God’s blessings are yours to name and claim: God gives us our ‘portion‘ for HIS glory and not ours in the eyes of men.

    You, O Lord, are our inheritance! You are our portion for heaven after we have died to our own wills of greed and self-indulgence.

    58 I entreat your favor with all my heart;
    be gracious to me according to your promise.

    I come to you in weakness, in my sickness of heart. With all of my heart (not just a portion set aside for god) I beg you for your favor. NOT ‘favor’ as in a favorite son, but favor as in, Have mercy on me, a sinner.

    59 When I think on my ways,
    I turn my feet to your testimonies;
    60 I hasten and do not delay
    to keep your commandments.
    61 Though the cords of the wicked ensnare me,
    I do not forget your law.
    62 At midnight I rise to praise you,
    because of your righteous rules.

    When you are in trouble do you rise to praise the Lord?

    Now follows the importance of Christian community: one Christian for the support of all other Christians who also fear the Lord:

    63 I am a companion of all who fear you,
    of those who keep your precepts.
    64 The earth, O Lord, is full of your steadfast love;
    teach me your statutes!

    The Lord is faithful, even unto death. For Life is ours in Christ Jesus, who also suffered and was sacrificed for our transgressions of the law and hears our prayers and witness and calling upon Him. Jesus IS Lord.

    Teach us your statutes! It is not only a call to memorize 10 commandments or learn a number of rules; it is the plea of our heart that God will show us (His servants) what to do and how to do it His way. Our strong desire should be to hear and do all that Jesus Christ has taught us in Person.

    Do you desire the Lord to teach you His statutes? (Here is a start.)

    Time After Time

    Death is never so real as when a soul is torn from you or is life so temporal as when death overcomes your loved one.

    Ignore it as we will, we will die and we can only watch our loved ones wither into dust or be taken from us. A flesh falters and bones do tremble at the sight of the grave.  Yet some hold to our relationship between souls; we hold near to Jesus.

    John 5: 25 “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. 27 And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.

    When Martha spoke to Jesus of her brother Lazarus his friend she said:  “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.”  This is the hope of promise for Christians. It is certain promise of the Word for the beloved souls taken from our temporal life by death.

    Christ Jesus said: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me,though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

    Martha believed this. I believe this. Do you?

    spirit

    Genesis 6:3a And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man…

    Flesh is that which we can see. Bones is that which we can almost touch – bones which will decay once more into the dust of time.

    Spirit is quite something else: inexplicable, incomprehensible, immeasurable, untouched, unheard, misunderstood and mysterious to the simpleness of our complex minds.

    Shall we complicate or clarify by equating to our spirit the very soul of our being – a human being, that is?

    Genesis 2:7c … and man became a living soul.

    “Hi, Roger,” a fellow man greets me. He is not talking to only the flesh of ears or the sore sight of his eyes. He speaks to my soul – my heart – my being in the image of the Living God.

     God IS and we are created in His Image. In the image of His Spirit, our spirit is created.

    Dear Father God, for this and for your Son and Holy Spirit I give you thanks.

    Yet a Holy God cannot always strive with mankind, sinful in the flesh and decaying by the unholiness of our worldly soul.

    Increasing Corruption on Earth

    3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years…”

    5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

    6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart…

    Do you grieve your LORD God, o man?

    Do you grieve Jesus Christ whose Name you claim, o christian?

    Christ Jesus also speaks of ‘spirit.’ Hear the Word of God in your heart and soul.

    John 3:3 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 4 Marvel not that I said to you, “You must be born again.”

    IN Christ Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, you must be born again. The LORD God will not forever contend with your soul, dearly beloved lost one.

    Repent of your sin! Do NOT contend with Christ our LORD.
