The Glory of Christ Jesus – 3

doxa – glory: splendour, brightness, magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity, grace, majesty, the kingly majesty which belongs to him as supreme ruler, majesty in the sense of the absolute perfection of the deity, the absolutely perfect inward or personal excellency of Christ, a most glorious condition, most exalted state,!

Can ANY description by a man illuminate the glory of Christ Jesus?

On a mountaintop [photo above] three Apostles witnessed the glory of Christ Jesus like no other witnesses in the history of all mankind.

    Luke 9:28-36

Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray.

Do not overlook (as I have before) that Jesus was taking His friends to a place to pray with Him to the Living God. Gethsemane was not the only place or time Jesus prayed with His Disciples.

Peter, James and John, who were nearest of Jesus’ Disciples on nearly every occasion in the three years of His earthly ministry, witnessed an amazing Presence which assured them (like no other) the the True identity and Image of the Son of God: the Messiah.

29 And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white.

30 And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

Imagine the awe of witnessing a conversation of your nearest and dearest friend with two of the most glorious servants of God in all history; two men who also had not set foot on this creation for many centuries past.

Moses had saved God’s chosen people and given us God’s Law. Elijah had shown the Power of the Living God over lifeless idols, lifeless flesh and an often lifeless disobedient people chosen by the Living God.

Yet like in Gethsemane, Jesus prayed with the Father for hours beyond the endurance of the weaker flesh of Peter and John to endure without sleep. (I must also confess this great weakness to endure long in prayer.)

32 Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him.

33 And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.

What would be your reaction be to such glory of holiness on this mountain?

What would be your reaction to this vision of glory?

Worship! Peter, James and John wanted to immediately create a place of worship; a place like the Tabernacle of Moses or the Temple of Solomon where the Very Presence of the Living God had come down to be witnessed by man.

Yet the awe of their glory of the Presence of God became even more filled with the overflowing glory of God the Father in the Presence of Christ Jesus.

34 As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.

35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!”

GLORY! to GOD in the HIGHEST!

    PRAISE to the Father

    and to the Son

    and to the Holy Spirit!

36 And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone.

How they must have worshiped Jesus! How impactful this superlative moment of glory in the lives of mortal men; yet the three mortal witnesses: Peter, James and John, undoubtedly received a command from Jesus to withhold their witness for a time, that His glory might be accomplished in Jerusalem on the Cross and from victory over sin and death in the Resurrection.

And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.

    A Temporary Throne – 5

    CHAPTER 5

    SUM, ERGO SUM, ROGER!

I lay there in awe and wonderment! I immediately understood the WORD the LORD had spoken to me.

Latin: From former thoughts of a man, who after doubting the existence of every man from the beginning of time and questioning everything of God’s Creation had concluded in his own thinking: “I think; therefore, I am.”

I had been wondering how real my experience was. I had thought: Is this real? Or is this only a dream?

That was the point of life to which the philosopher had reasoned himself. The thinker’s conclusion was that man exists with certainty, because man can certainly think.

When Moses had encountered God in the burning bush that was not consumed, it did not make sense (to a created man). When Moses later asked God how to explain who God IS to Israel, this was God’s reply:

Exodus 3:14 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.”

I knew (if I know anything at all) that some translations of the Bible read: “I AM THAT I AM,” in Hebrew literally, “hayah hayah.”

Yĕhovah ‘elohiym THE LORD GOD had spoken to me saying:

I AM, THEREFORE I AM, ROGER.

And for His MOST PERSONAL purpose, THE LORD GOD had addressed HIS NAME to me personally!

  • The Glory of Christ Jesus

    The Glory of Christ Jesus

Luke 2:7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. 8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear.

10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord…

18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them…

25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law…

Matthew 2: 13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” 14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt 15 and remained there until the death of Herod.

Angels, messengers of God, do not suddenly appear to men, appear in dreams, and bring proclamations and warnings to certain chosen ones without intention to glorify God. The birth of Jesus was first evidence to some of the glory of this Christ child, a son of man, of the lowest of castes, born in a manger, then to become a refugee from the murders in the places of God and the palaces of kings.

At a time when Jesus is baptized in the Jordan, God the Father makes His glory known.

jordan riverMark 1: 9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven,

“You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

Imagine the public scene of the faithful, being baptized by John. Jesus walks into the water of the Jordan. They have a brief conversation.  (Some heard it was about who should baptize and who should be baptized; for John did not feel worthy to baptize Jesus, the Messiah of God.)

Then the VOICE of GOD ALMIGHTY, the LORD, speaks! The heavens open (this no man can explain) and the Holy Spirit of God descends to the earth and the glory of God rests on Christ Jesus, the Son being baptized.

No picture can do justice to the glory of this scene at the river Jordan in this awesome moment in time. Suddenly there appeared the glory of LORD and those present for the purification of their sins, the baptism and permanent change of their hearts, hear of the VOICE of the LORD!

    Deuteronomy 5:

22 “These words the Lord spoke to all your assembly at the mountain out of the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the thick darkness, with a loud voice; and he added no more. And he wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me. 23 And as soon as you heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you came near to me, all the heads of your tribes, and your elders.

24 And you said, ‘Behold, the Lord our God has shown us his glory and greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire. This day we have seen God speak with man, and man still live. 25 Now therefore why should we die? For this great fire will consume us.

If we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, we shall die. 26 For who is there of all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of fire as we have, and has still lived? 27 Go near and hear all that the Lord our God will say, and speak to us all that the Lord our God will speak to you, and we will hear and do it.’

Who, indeed, has heard the Voice of the Living God, chay ‘elohiym?

For our God is the Living God, He IS and He exists! He is no idol.

And the Voice of the Person of the Father speaks as a Living One of His Son and sends down from the heavens (like a dove lighting upon a man) the form of the Very Spirit of the Living God!

How awesome! is this sight for which words cannot illustrate the glory of the LORD!
