    A Temporary Throne – 20

    Previously…

I WILL TELL THEM ONCE MORE.

Genesis 9:7 And as for you, be fruitful and multiply; Bring forth abundantly in the earth And multiply in it.”

… I paused to consider God’s covenant with Noah and the few survivors for a cleansed creation.

    CHAPTER 20

God had once again given man a blessing. God had once again given man a command, Go into all the world (to rephrase from a later Word) … be fruitful and multiply… and whatever you do, DON’T kill each other.

Simple enough, Right? I had no better commands for Noah. Like in Eden, it was all dependent on obedience.

And as for Abel’s murder after Eden, God had also warned Cain about jealousy over blessing:

Genesis 4:7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.

All Noah’s sons and their wives and offspring had to do was to ‘do well’ by obeying the LORD God who had saved them.

As God reminded me of Genesis 9:11, the LORD showed me a building.

Genesis 11: “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. 7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

The people were NOT in many places, but crowded together into one city.

Disobedience! Just like in Eden. And furthermore, man in gathering together had set their hearts against God; for they had proclaimed:

Genesis 11:4 “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

We returned to THE THRONE of Heaven. It seemed I couldn’t command obedience from mankind; men and women wanting to ‘make a name for ourselves.’

    A Temporary Throne – 19

     CHAPTER 19

Genesis 8: “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.

    22 “While the earth remains,
    Seedtime and harvest,
    Cold and heat,
    Winter and summer,
    And day and night
    Shall not cease.”

I could do no better; yet it seemed GOD expected more that I should covenant with Noah and man to follow (which would include you and me). Noah, as Priest to God has God’s authority over his family and over all the animals.

    God listens.

“Rule over every animal of the earth.” I said.

    God nodded approval.

“Man may kill animals, but NO murder.”

(God nodded.) I seemed to be getting the idea.

ROGER! HAVE YOU NOTHING TO ADD?

“LORD,” I replied, YOU have already told them to ‘be fruitful and multiply on the earth.’”

I WILL TELL THEM ONCE MORE.

    Genesis 9:7 And as for you, be fruitful and multiply;
Bring forth abundantly in the earth
    And multiply in it.”

HAVE I NOT BLESSED NOAH’S SONS AND WIVES AND THE GENERATIONS IN THIS?

    The LORD asked me.

I paused to consider God’s covenant with Noah and the few survivors for a cleansed creation.

I SWEAR MY PART OF THIS COVENANT:

Genesis 9:11 “Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

    A Temporary Throne – 18

    CHAPTER 18

    JUDGE RIGHTLY, SON OF MAN:
    LET US MAKE OUR COVENANT.

THE LORD had shown me HIS Creation from within Eden. I now observed scene of Paradise from HIS Cleansed Creation of the garden planet upon which we dwell. I had never so fully appreciated the glory of the Creation of this earthen speck of dust in the heavens, so full of the Lord’s life.

Old Noah (who looked 600 years old) worshiped the LORD.

I HAVE GIVEN MY MAN NOAH BUT ONE COMMAND.

Genesis 8:15 Then God spoke to Noah, saying,
16 “Go out of the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons’ wives with you.

17 Bring out with you every living thing of all flesh that is with you: birds and cattle and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, so that they may abound on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.”

Noah (as I had remembered from my Bible picture books) had led the animals “by twos, male and female;” but Noah had entered the ark with fourteen of each of the clean animals. (Genesis 7:2)

Noah now sacrificed one of each of these of the fourteen clean animals. (Genesis 8:20) This was the sacrifice to which GOD came once more down to Noah.

Because of Adam’s disobedience, GOD had cursed the ground now cleansed. What is God’s redemption for this new ‘adam of a cleansed Creation?

Noah will not have hedged-in garden, but dominion through God over all the earth.

What covenant could hold back the evil yet to come?

What agreement would I want with God’s new ‘adam?
