Psalm 119

English Standard Version (ESV)

Your Word Is a Lamp to My Feet

Prayer is a conversation with God. He IS God and we are not.

Therefore, our attitude is not as adam to another man. We are not equal nor do we deserve anything other than death and punishment for our sins. We must bow down to God our Master as His servant. Though a personal and approachable, loving Father, He IS the LORD.

Teth

65 You have dealt well with your servant,
O Lord, according to your word.

Has God not dealt fairly with you as a slave? Though our Father disciplines those He loves, the LORD is our Lord.

Do we not owe our Creator obedience to His commandments and His ways?

66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge,
for I believe in your commandments.

This is not the judgment of eternal punishment. It is God’s judgment of good behavior. (Roger did what is right in the eyes of the Lord, rather than did evil by lack of knowledge of God’s commandments and will for all mankind to do good and not evil.)

Knowledge of the Lord is essential to eternal life. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: H1847 but fools despise wisdom and instruction. – Proverbs 1:7

We tend to wander from the straight and narrow path with the Lord’s light of the commandments of scripture, don’t we?

67 Before I was afflicted I went astray,
but now I keep your word.
68 You are good and do good;
teach me your statutes.

Thou fool! would you prefer to be bowed down to the Living God by the force of His might rather than bow down to His love by your obedience to His will?

69 The insolent smear me with lies,
but with my whole heart I keep your precepts;
70 their heart is unfeeling like fat,
but I delight in your law.

The importance of loving God with your whole heart (and soul) is central to the teachings Hebrew scriptures. This description: Their heart is as fat as grease, is used only here in scripture. It means that without keeping God’s instruction our heart (soul) becomes insensitive. Do you not see this insensitivity in many others who deny God by their daily lives?

71 It is good for me that I was afflicted,
that I might learn your statutes.
72 The law of your mouth is better to me
than thousands of gold and silver pieces.
