Death is never so real as when a soul is torn from you or is life so temporal as when death overcomes your loved one.
Ignore it as we will, we will die and we can only watch our loved ones wither into dust or be taken from us. A flesh falters and bones do tremble at the sight of the grave. Yet some hold to our relationship between souls; we hold near to Jesus.
John 5: 25 “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. 27 And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
When Martha spoke to Jesus of her brother Lazarus his friend she said: “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” This is the hope of promise for Christians. It is certain promise of the Word for the beloved souls taken from our temporal life by death.
Christ Jesus said: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me,though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
Martha believed this. I believe this. Do you?
