    What does it mean to be saved? (What is salvation?)

     The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,

    And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death

    Light has dawned.” – Matthew 4:16 NKJV (quoting Isaiah 9:2)

    Luke 3:6 KJV And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

    Psalm 119

    English Standard Version (ESV)

    Your Word Is a Lamp to My Feet

    Kaph

    81 My soul longs for your salvation;
    I hope in your word.
    82 My eyes long for your promise;
    I ask, “When will you comfort me?”

    The word salvation occurs 164 times in the KJV of the Bible. Do you realize the importance of your salvation in Christ Jesus?

    In the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) salvation of God is hoped for and anticipated in the Person of the Messiah. It is a time of darkness and sin into which Jesus was born as a Son of Man in a manger in Bethlehem and sacrificed for our sins on a Cross in Jerusalem. Jesus IS our salvation.

    A thousand years before Christ, when David and Solomon ruled as Kings of Israel, the Law of God and His statutes were the present hope of Israel. The true hope of Israel was born in Christ Jesus, prophesied and predicted in the Psalms and by many Prophets during and following the fall of the earthly Kingdoms of Israel and Judah.

    83 For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke,
    yet I have not forgotten your statutes.
    84 How long must your servant endure?
    When will you judge those who persecute me?

    85 The insolent have dug pitfalls for me;
    they do not live according to your law.
    86 All your commandments are sure;
    they persecute me with falsehood; help me!
    87 They have almost made an end of me on earth,
    but I have not forsaken your precepts.

    88 In your steadfast love give me life,
    that I may keep the testimonies of your mouth.

    Even unbelievers know a portion of salvation:

    John 3:16-19

    16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him

    He has not saved our life for ourselves, but for His own glory.

    Jesus IS Lord and Savior.

    Into the world is born a Messiah, prophesied by John the Baptist, prophesied by his father, Zechariah, the high priest of God:

    Luke 1:76 And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High;
    for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
    77 to give knowledge of salvation to his people
    in the forgiveness of their sins,
    78 because of the tender mercy of our God,
    whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high
    79 to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
    to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

    He

    Your Word Is a Lamp to My Feet

    He

    33 Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes;
    and I will keep it to the end.
    34 Give me understanding, that I may keep your law
    and observe it with my whole heart.
    35 Lead me in the path of your commandments,
    for I delight in it.
    36 Incline my heart to your testimonies,
    and not to selfish gain!

    “Teach me…” is more than instruction only. It is plea to Jehovah to point in the right direction.

    Point by way of statutes, law, commandments and testimonies.

    Let me, O God, NOT be selfish!

    37 Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things;
    and give me life in your ways.

    ‘Turn away mine eyes from vanity,’ states the King James Version.

    Could that mean such things as: facebook, cell phones, endless hours of television and the numerous games and movies of entertainment?

    Let the Spirit and the Word of God convict each of us!

    38 Confirm to your servant your promise,
    that you may be feared.
    39 Turn away the reproach that I dread,
    for your rules are good.
    40 Behold, I long for your precepts;
    in your righteousness give me life!

    Do you long for the precepts of God, lived for us in the life of Christ Jesus?

    OR do these other desires of your flesh point the arrow of your soul in a path downward of heaven?

  • Why did God hate Esau?

    Why did God hate Esau?

    Genesis 25:30

    And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.

    Malachi 1

    English Standard Version (ESV)

    1 The oracle of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi.

    The Lord’s Love for Israel

    2 “I have loved you,” says the Lord.

    But you say, “How have you loved us?” “Is not Esau Jacob’s brother?” declares the Lord.

    “Yet I have loved Jacob 3 but Esau I have hated.

    I have laid waste his hill country and left his heritage to jackals of the desert.” 4 If Edom says, “We are shattered but we will rebuild the ruins,” the Lord of hosts says, “They may build, but I will tear down, and they will be called ‘the wicked country,’ and ‘the people with whom the Lord is angry forever.’”

    5 Your own eyes shall see this, and you shall say, “Great is the Lord beyond the border of Israel!”

    Great is the Lord beyond all borders and barriers of time and circumstance.

    Oh how those faithful to the Lord God of Israel have been to speak of the glory of the Lord even beyond the border of Israel. Take Paul’s letter to the Romans, for example:

    God’s Sovereign Choice

    I am speaking the truth in Christ—I am not lying; my conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit— 2 that I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh. 4 They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises. 5 To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen.

    Why did God hate Esau? Esau rejected his blessing in favor of his desires of the flesh (a single meal). Later, Israel rejected God. Jacob denied Christ Jesus, the Messiah of Israel and Savior of the world.

    Is the Lord not a God of love? Has he not adopted even the descendants of the nations into the family of Christ Jesus? How could a God of love hate a man? Why?

    Do you also, in your own desires to feed your worldly flesh reject Christ Jesus your Savior?

    6 But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel, 7 and not all are children of Abraham because they are his offspring, but “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.”

    8 This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring… 3 As it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”

    14 What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God’s part? By no means! 15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”

    16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.

     Are you a child of the flesh, like Esau? Or are you a child of the promise, adopted through Christ’s grace into the mercy, compassion and love of God our Heavenly Father?

    The world continues to hate Israel.  The world continues to reject God. The world hates Christians and the world still hates Jesus Christ.

    God IS love. God rejects those who will not bow down to Christ Jesus. He IS and was and will return!

    Jesus encouraged us with the knowledge that those who oppose Christians oppose God:

    Matthew 10:22 and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

    Endure to the end, beloved of God, for the sake of Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

    Why did God hate Esau?

    Esau rejected God’s blessing. Do you?
