Disaster because of Disobedience
This is the first post from our TalkofJESUS.com SERIES in June 2018 of the Common Era.
(Regular readers will note that back then this date was AD 2018 or in the year of our Lord 2018)
Our SERIES begins with a look at Biblical disasters from the Old Testament with warnings of the LORD through the Jewish Prophets.
Jeremiah
(Judean Prophet from about 600 years Before Christ)
The dates of his ministry, which spanned 5 decades, are from the Judean king Josiah’s 13th year, noted in 1:2 (627 BC), to beyond the fall of Jerusalem to Babylon in 586 BC (Jer. 39, 40, 52). After 586 BC, Jeremiah was forced to go with a fleeing remnant of Judah to Egypt (Jer. 43, 44). He was possibly still ministering in 570 BC
Thus says Yahweh,
“Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths,
Where the good way is, and walk in it;
And you will find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
Perhaps in these last days one might ask,
“Who wants to hear from the Lord?
Disaster because of Disobedience
16 This is what the Lord says:
Stand by the roadways and look.
Ask about the ancient paths:
Which is the way to what is good?
Then take it
and find rest for yourselves.
But they protested, “We won’t!”
Jeremiah 6:16
Yet even now, as in the days of the Prophets and as in Jeremiah’s time before, during and after the fall of Jerusalem, ‘We won’t.’
Isaiah – yᵊšaʿyâ – יְשַׁעְיָה
(Judean Prophet from about 700 years Before Christ)
The name of the Prophet Isaiah is derived from two Hebrew words meaning: Save or Saviour and LORD or YaH [similar to the names of Elijah, Elisha, Joshua and Jesus.
Isaiah prophesied from ca. 739–686 BC.. during the period of the divided kingdom.
2026 CE addition and observation from MacArthur's commentary on Isaiah [linked above]:
During Uzziah’s prosperous 52 year reign (ca. 790–739 B.C.), Judah developed into a strong commercial and military state ... Yet the period witnessed a decline in Judah’s spiritual status.
Any Common Era powers come to mind?
You may be familiar with a verse of Isaiah which precedes our focus today on the judgment of Judah, the nations and those who, for briefest time, lead us.
But those who wait upon the LORD {YHWH} will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.

Isaiah 41:1
Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength:
Isaiah 41:1 KJV
let them come near;
then let them speak:
let us come near together to judgment.
- Will WE seek the presence of the Lord in humility and silence?
- Do those leaders who guide our Nations?
Though, like Judah, we claim His righteousness, we too speak judgment to the nations without counsel of His Word.
Ezekiel
(A Priest of Israel and Prophet in Babylon in about 600 years Before Christ) Ezekiel was part of the group of Israelites taken into Babylonian captivity in 597 BC
Ezekiel 12:2
“Son of man, you live among rebels who have eyes but refuse to see. They have ears but refuse to hear. For they are a rebellious people.
Have we not heard these words before, “you with eyes to see, you with ears to hear?”
Yet WE the people of this Common Era also remain a rebellious house, a rebellious nation, a rebellious claimant of God’s favor.
Why will WE not seek God’s leading before the disaster by which the Lord will judge?
Yet our kings also ask, ‘What difference could it possibly make?’
