Acts of the Apostles: 1st century Church History – Intro

Acts Apostolos - Acts 1 of the Apostles begins a 28 chapter account of the chronicles of Christ's Apostles - a history of Christ's Church

p.2 Why do we call it: ‘Acts?’

Luke’s TITLE Acts from Greek ποιέω for his historic account of the Apostles means Abide, Abode:

“to do, make,” is used of spending a time or tarrying, in a place, Act 15:33; 20:3

“Now why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do G4160 what I say? Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and [does] acts G4160 on them..

Words of Jesus Christ from the Gospel of Luke 6:46-47a NASB20 – Strong’s G4160 – poieō

We know ‘act‘ from the Hebrew imperative as well.

לֹֽא־תַעֲשׂוּן כֵּן לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃

“You shall not act this way toward the LORD your God.

Devarim (Deuteronomy) 12 :4 – Masoretic text; NASB20

For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.

Ecclesiastes 12:14 NASB20
